Edmond “Tank” Shelton was born at Jefferson Memorial Hospital in Pine Bluff, Arkansas March 7, 1991. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church where he served as a youth director, praise and worship leader and deacon under the leadership of the Rev. Ricky Lattimore Sr. until his death, May 28, 2020. He was only 29 years old.
Edmond attended and graduated from Dermott High School in the summer of 2008. He attended Arkansas Boys State and won a seat on their board. He later graduated from the University of Arkansas at Monticello, receiving a bachelors degree in Social Work, and worked at the Department of Human Services in Monticello and Lake Village. In college, “Tank,” as he was called, was the student of the year.
Out of love for his community, Edmond served as an alderman for the City of Dermott for two years. This gave him the distinction of becoming the youngest elected official to sit on the Executive Board of the Arkansas Municipal League.
Edmond is described as someone who truly loved the Lord with all his heart, and who made it known everywhere he went and with whomever he met. His life is characterized by one simple word, “Giving.” He was always there for family, friends, and acquaintances, even during the periods of his life when he was very ill.
Through it all, Edmond accomplished his life’s dreams by striving for educational excellence and bringing that excellence to everyone in his circle, even through his illness. He served as an example for people around him, blending a great sense of humor with poise and grace.
Edmond was always generous with his time and attentive to his family and friends. He never looked for praises, never boasted. He just went on quietly working for the Lord.
